Period Pub Names

There is a campaign afoot to change the name of Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans, one of Britain's oldest pubs, to Ye Olde Clever Cocks, out of respect for chickens.

Hmm. PETA - People Eating Tasty Animals? :wink:

Personally, I'm not that keen on rewriting history and tend to agree with the chap cited in the article - the name is a reminder of how things have improved over time.

At least the regulars seem to have the measure of the campaign :lol:
