Last year it was courgettes, this year plums.. so many on the old Victoria I suspect many will go on the compost, and other trees which usually never bear fruit have some interesting looking plums.

We had our trees pruned last year (previous owners had neglected) and have been rewarded by bumper returns now. Apples, pears, walnuts and quince - all in abundance.

It may be the pruning, which helps, but it may be simply a good year! We have good and poor years, and if there's a late frost - forget it!

It's a wonderful holly year also.

A few years ago, some friends were away on an extended holiday when their Victoria plum tree fruited. They had told us to help ourselves, so we went round to the house to do so. The sheer weight of plums had actually broken all the major limbs off the tree, which never really recovered.

I don't wear smocks, but that name certainly brings back memories...!

Actually, that one in the pic is a large limb short, which is a pity as it used to sort of balance the tree when it was bare of leaves.

That's why there's a large prop now propping up another branch.

I've been out picking damsons also - first time ever we have had any, far too good to waste on a crumble, damson gin I think... I think freeze them first, more juice that way.

I've also been picking more Victorias - no idea what to do with so many. I've gorged myself and my other half tells me I will get plum tum.

I think that's the polite version of sh*t smock!

We have a bumper crop of midges this year too, unfortunately.

Ouch.

There are a variety of fruit trees in my garden including five apple trees, last saturday my dear wife came back from tesco with four bags of shopping which included a bag of "red" apples.

I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.

Well our apples aren't ready yet! We have had to buy some.

Bumper onion crop though, just lifted some today.
