Yep, get ready for Lent, for all those that are inclined.

My esteemed employers are selling ready made, longlife, vacuum packed pancakes this year - sound disgusting don't they? Yet they are selling really well - clearly aimed at those who think boiling an egg is difficult cookery :roll:

That's a fail for the marketing dept then, as I had not heard about longlife vacuum packed pancakes.

Yes, but I have been in London for a while, wheels up off the tarmac at H'row tomorrow if all goes to plan. Doesn't surprise me about the cost of living there, comparing things in London they seem a bit cheaper. I am going back with a goodly supply of Primark undies and 2 nice handbags, no shoes though

So envious of all the pancakes tossed and scoffed! I'm simply not allowed them, I have to ration my treats so sparingly and am already trying to claw back after a pound gained at the weekend. Still, nothing tastes as good as being slim feels!

Cooked ours for the first time on the induction hob, with an expensive ceramic-coated non-stick pan.
Previously, for 34 years, gas, with a conventional heavy iron pan. Here we have no gas.
Used olive oil. Vegetable oil has apparently been banished by OH.

Couldn't move the pan around for fear of scratching the hob.
Non-stick pan, the oil wouldn't stick to it. Absence of oil means one has no clue as to temperature.
The pan was so slippy, when I tried getting the (melamine) spatula under the pancake it just retreated up the side of the pan.
The olive oil tasted odd.
The pancakes were doughy and unappetising. Slightly salvaged by copious additions of golden syrup.

Progress, but not as we know it.

I'm the tosser in our house :shock: and take charge of the barbecue as well. Mrs DJH has learned her cholesterol is high so this year we used Flora Cuisine for the pancakes. It's like mayonnaise or salad cream when squirted in the pan but goes clear when it's hot. Blooming good stuff I reckon. Best pancakes ever and they didn't need levering off the pan with a spatula so that they slid around ready to toss.

I have no financial interest in Flora and my cholesterol is about 5 (without trying) much to Mrs DJH's chagrin...

Thick batter, on a slightly buttered plate, for about a minute. Apparently.

Cooking isn't my strong point.
Fear that all this will lead to is having to clean out the inside of the microwave.
