As I was getting a bit bored at work today I decided to Google and see whether our house is truly Suffolk pink. I prefer a slightly darker hue myself and I remember Marco Pierre White having a bit of a ding-dong with the local planners in Lavenham and losing. To my delight and horror I found that our own cottage was actually used as an example of what proper Suffolk pink is, but that the article (link below) was a feature in the Daily Mail :shock: . I hate the Mail, especially as it often prompted my mother to cut out articles and send them to me, saying that I had better see a doctor otherwise I might not make it to the end of the week. That's assuming we didn't get overrun by immigrants first :roll: .

Could this actually have been classed as a genuine Grump?

I know we only have the DM's report to go on, but it sounds a bit like a storm in a teacup to me. It is admitted that the colour of the building has been changed many times over the years and I imagine that whatever colour had been used there would have been enough opposition to fuel that article. It was also stated that consent to change the colour was not required (is this really true?), in which case the only grounds for complaint would seem to be personal preferences - and we all know what a minefield that can be! Finally, the "that's more like it" photo of 'genuine' suffolk pink on that other property looks barely different, though I suppose that could be a colour balance issue.

The real 'crime', it seems to me, is revealed by the throwaway line about completely inappropriate paint being used instead of limewash. Now THAT would be worthy of some mild outrage. But, frankly, I suspect that even if poor old Marco had re-painted the building in EH-approved Suffolk Pink limewash, plenty of people would still have complained that they preferred the old colour instead.

But it's a good reminder of why I never buy newspapers!

How did they get the picture of your house Tobydog? Is it from an old estate agent ad?

I agree with FF, in that the two colours are pretty similar and that whatever MPW had done he'd have no doubt upset *some* people :roll:

Red pigments fade rapidly - pink especially seems to move from somewhere near orange to blancmange in a couple of years.

The photo looks as though it was one taken by the agent before we moved in.

Unfortunately the Suffolk pink on our house is Weathershield.
