Been trying to get a roofer to come and do some work on our (new) garage roof. 'Is there scaffolding?' they ask. 'No'. And they lose interest.
In the end I did it myself.

As Indian driving testifies! Of course I can drive my overloaded, badly maintained lorry with next to no brakes and bald tyres, and I can overtake just before this blind bend, as if it's my day to die then it's my day to die, it's God's will and there's nothing I can do about it.

Chinese scaffolding can be quite "interesting" as well, especially when it's made from bamboo.

A friend of mine took a holiday in Greece many years ago, and was moaning about the quality of Greek driving. I asked him which side of the road they drive on in Greece - he rolled his eyes and replied "The shady side"!

Reminds me of a taxi driver in Istanbul who picked us up from the airport.

Bamboo is an extraordinary material. I understand that some species can grow at a rate of 3 feet per day, but despite this many bamboos only flower around once every 100 years. Bamboo has a tensile strength similar to steel and a compressive strength better than concrete.

Hence its wide range of constructional uses, plus of course its most important function - handbag handles. :roll:
