Period items for free

I did mention to Simon some time ago that there might be scope for a period 'freecycle' topic and he agreed. This post is partly by way of a toe in the water to test the idea and partly because I have about 70 double roman tiles which are no use to me but might be just what someone else needs. If they are of use to anyone, please get in touch!

I think a period freecycle would be a great idea, I've got some stuff lying around that needs a home and loath ebay et al, so I'm in!

Brilliant idea----just too late for me to offer anything at the moment as it has all gone off to the Tring Auction rooms----however more may appear in due course and PPUK for free will be a better way of offloading.

Sounds good, I have about 30 paint tester pots free to any artists who work in emulsion .... Mrs mattice took some time to decide on the landing colour. :roll: Joking aside, it would at least take an edge off the guilty trips to the tip.

Great idea. I have a pallet of reclaimed oak floorboards which I'd be glad to give away. There's a chap in Scotland who's been offered first refusal, but if he doesn't take them in the end, then I'd be glad to.

Wow. A result.
If this idea is to become really useful it will need a few simple rules: eg free means what it says, anything with a price must go into the classifieds; once something is taken there needs to be a way of deleting or archiving the post. Any further thoughts?

I'm in a land rover club that operates a similar thing as a sub category on their main message board.

Rules are as follows:
1) Only forum members with >10 posts can access it
2) Must be free, only money exchanged is to cover postage costs where applicable
3) Once item has been "claimed" the original poster can simply reply to the thread saying that the item is no longer available/has gone.
4) All posts are automatically deleted if there has been no activity on them for 30 days
5) If any of the freely given items are found on ebay etc afterwards, that forum member is banned.

It has worked pretty well for several years now.

May over-complicate things but it could be good to include a 'stuff wanted' too?

We've probably all got little bits and pieces that are surplus to our requirements and could be exactly what someone else needs to finish or fix something but that we'd never consider significant enough to actually post on here unless asked (like a few bits of lath or enough braided flex for a light fitting?)
