I thought that story was déjà vu all over again! It bears repetition though - a wonderful project!

I'd be furious if anyone broke in here to carry out guerilla work on the house. Particularly if they were to install a woodburner in the dining room (twin-wall, self-insulated, stainless steel flue, please).

Oh, scarcely. It was indeed Gareth who alerted me, I have little time for the Guardian in general as they don't support my politics of a benevolent dictatorship with me in charge. :wink:

But it's a wonderful story, sadly I don't think our country has the right levels of national pride in our built heritage for this to ever happen here.

Yes, but look on the bright side there's always Stalin, Enver Hoxha, and Empress Dowager Cixi who all got in fairly good innings. I could see Joce rather enjoying surroundings like the Forbidden City..........

True - but balancing that against the probability of eventually being lined up against a wall and shot, I suspect your school careers advisor would steer you away from a path of dictatorship.

Of course one drawback is if you do get an internship, it might last a bit longer than you expected......
