My Angry is in the process of making me a solid oak front door, does anyone have any ideas what finish should be used? I want to make the most of the beautiful wood grain but as the house is on the top of a mountain it will get extremes of all weathers.

Either nothing and let it go silver or Osmo UV oil , the first option giving a more natural look and the second a 'smart' look that won't yellow in the sun. It's down to personal preference,I think. I would not use linseed oil of any type.

zebra as long as there's plenty of tea and birdseed i'm sure he would oblige x

I used teak oil, applied each autumn. It soaks in rather than sitting on the surface. Only drawback, over 22 years the oak never developed that lovely mature silver colour.
