As a PS to this thread, I must tell you about my shopping trip with Mrs P, the other day. She needed some new underwear from M&S, so there I was, waiting around for her amid an entire floor of frilly bits and pieces, with a vaguely embarrassed look on my face. I suddenly tuned in to the wallpaper music on the PA system and realised that it was Cat Stevens singing:

"Oh, I can't keep it in.
I can't keep it in,
I've gotta let it out!"

True story - I promise!

I suddenly tuned in to the wallpaper music on the PA system and realised that it was Cat Stevens singing:

I don't find it at all embarrassing to go into the section of M and S that sells male undergarments, either with or without His Lordship, I wonder why the reverse is not true? Could it be one of the last bastions of gender inequality, like the comment between girls of "I'm going to powder my nose" with the implied "are you coming too?"

To be honest, I suspect it's because the sight of all those frilly undies provokes lascivious thoughts in the male mind, whereas the sight of vests and Y-fronts probably just makes women think of laundry.

My late OH wasn't in the least bit embarrassed in fact he enjoyed buying me underwear as a surprise.

I've never subscribed to the ritual of women all going to the loo together for a gossip, in fact if anyone stands up and proposes joining me when I excuse myself I sit back down and go later.
