Period Door furniture

Hi All,

Am just in the process of replacing the hideous hollow pressed doors in our converted Victorian School 1846, we've gone for solid pitch pine 'Victorian' four panel doors which will be painted. I now need to think about door handles, we originally thought about reeded beehive type knobs but just wanted to check if I'm on the right track period wise? Any advice gratefully received.

Hello Mickey. Congrats on reinstating some decent doors.

I've just scanned in a number of pages from a late Victorian catalogue on another thread.

However it is from the 1890s so a while after your property was built. Reeded are nice, a friends 1860s house has reeded handles.

yes I saw your fantastic article, partly what got me thinking about what would be correct for here. I don't think therefore I'll be too far out with reeded beehives. This also got me wondering about external door handles (back door) since I have permission to replace the hideous current one, I think we'll have to go for a 5 lever mortice lock so now I'm not sure if I can have knob or a handle and if a handle what on earth would be correct for the period?!
