Period delays

Is it just me or is anyone else finding that PPUK is taking forever to open up? It doesn't seem to matter whether it's the iPad at home with Wi-Fi, my iPhone on 3G, or my desktop at work. I haven't had access for a week but realised last night that if I just leave it grinding away, it opens up eventually.

I've had some issues getting to the PPUK homepage but by going directly to the forum url http://www.periodproperty.co.uk/forum/ seems to solve that issue.

Yes: me too. Its taken a long time to load up, for the last week or so.

Thanks Forge. Just tried it and got straight in. Heading for the homepage was taking 10-15 minutes :shock: .

Are those experiencing delays using a WindowsXP PC by any chance? There has been a recent problem with Windows Updates that results in the updating process using almost 100% of the PC's processing power. I had the problem a couple of weeks ago and also again today.

If the only slowness has been with PPUK pages then it's probably not this, but if everything on the PC is running very slowly then it's something worth checking.

It has been fine for me, both on laptop ( running Windows 7 ) and iPad. I don't go to the homepage, straight to the Discussion Forum.

FF - it's everything. Home, work, iPhone. The odd thing is that when you get in normally via the discussion forum, if you then try going to the home page you can't get in that way either. Clearly just a dodgy home page.

I've noticed a delay. I have a very fast broadband and am using windows7. Seems to be happening on the iPad as well.

All my devices are set to open the forum by default, and I have no problem at all. But out of curiosity I've just tried to go to the Home page, and the loading bar crawled along at such a snails-pace that I gave up.
I'm sure the IT-savvy among us will know the technical term for this phenomenon. Perhaps some of them could PM Simon and make some sensible suggestions.


I don't know if it's relevant, but we're an all-Mac household, served by Virgin, and using Safari as our search engine.

I had this on an XP PC and finally found the answer a few days ago. You need to manually apply an update to Internet Explorer, ... even if, like us, you use Chrome or Firefox and never go anywhere near IE, you still need this update to fix the 100%cpu svchost problem.

You need the correct patch for the version of IE you have installed -
IE7: IE7-WindowsXP-KB2879017-x86-ENU.exe http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40519
IE8: IE8-WindowsXP-KB2879017-x86-ENU.exe http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40390

If you still have IE6, then please upgrade to either IE7 or IE8.

UPDATE - 16/11 - Sorry, the XP 100% cpu problem has just come back again, so please ignore the above.

I tried this morning with Windows and couldn't get the page to load; tried with Chrome and it went straight there, you techie guys will have to explain why, though!

I've experienced some delays as well...mind you I now have Windows 8 (8.1 upgrade) and it's a nightmare...

When you use Google to search it allows magic pixies to sneak into your device, once there they fiddle with the Windows to slow everything down, but if you use Chrome they are very happy so it loads right away.

That is such a dreadful OS. When I had to return my new W8 Dell because it had a faulty motherboard, I decided to replace with a W7 HP. One and a half days of W8 was enough to convince me it was a horrid attempt at being a poor imitation of the Apple way of doing things. Not that I don't love my iPad etc, but they do it better.

Good morning milady. I don't have pads, tablets or anything touchy except the cats and my pc isn't a touch screen. The touch pad thingy is offset on the pc and I keep touching the pad from the right getting the settings thingy coming up from the right and then I get things coming up from the bottom and then I get the picture getting bigger on it's own and then I get a new screen coming up and then I can't find my pictures and then Skydrive won't work on a pc that's been upgraded from windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and then I start to cry...

Does your machine allow you to turn off the touchpad and just use a mouse?

and then I get things called Apps and then I get really confused and then I get really really fed up and then I wanted to send an Excel attachment in an e-mail and then I can't so then I don't bother so I'm going back to catalogue my Period Books where I'm happiest...

Yes it does milady but the mouse doesn't work on the arm of the chair... and even then the damn menu thingy keeps coming in from the right and you have to click on the page to get rid of it...grrr
