Period Clock

I have a vintage clock that would have originally been installed on a ships bulkead. Since I don't have a ship to put it on I want to hang it in the hallway in London. It's quite heavy ( about 20cm dia ) and has 3 holes in the outside of the case that provide the fixing poins. Whatever I use to hang it from will be visible, so I bought a packet of "Mirror Screws & Chrome Dome" , No.8, 1 1/4 inch ( 30mm ) they look to me like they would do the job, but I was wondering if anyone had any useful thoughts? The wall its destined for is a real wall as far as I know, not the other sort of pretend wall.

Very nice. Does it chime and, if so, does it chime 'ships bells' rather than the more usual hour?

I have a Chelsea ships clock, which is very similar, though it has a mantlepiece mount. There are various wall-mounting options available, which might give you some ideas.

The clock itself is fixed to the mount using round-headed brass screws.

If you want mount it direct to the wall, No.8 x 1 1/4" falls into the "it'll *probably* be OK but I'd rather go a bit heavier" category for me. If you really want mirror screws then at least go for No.8 x 1 1/2" or if you've got the right wall plugs 2".

Personally I'd use roundheaded brass screws, No.10 weight, length to suit your wall plugs but at least 1 1/2"

No, it doesn't chime, the other clock does ( if I wind it up, which reminds me...... ) and I havn't decided if the cuckoo* will live here or not, so I didn't mind having a silent one! I am now having barometer envy having looked at the lovely things at Chelsea though, splendid site.

Thanks for the links Feltwell, I will see if I can find the 1 1/2 or 2 ones as I am out and about. It's always easier when you know what to ask for and much more likely to be found when you know you can go online and order as a Plan B option for some reason.

*Before anyone starts imagining one of those chalet style ones that plays Eidelweiss every 15 mins, he isn't.

This is a genuine (and rather expensive I might add) clock in what was my local town. No one noticed the problem until some time after it went up. It quickly became a regional talking point and will now be staying put.

No, I think the transposed numbers are about the least of it's aesthetic problems!

I'm inclined to agree, however, given that the local yobs used the previous clock as target practice, it wasn't worth wasting time and money on anything better. It would only draw attention from the wrong sort.
