Appart from the usual flashing reindeer and Santa's hanging from peoples houses, the worst thing I have seen around here is a small Chapel up the road that insists on putting chaser lights around the cross on the front of the building. Now I'm not particularly religious but somehow that just doesn't seem right :?

Stunning - quite stunning. I love that, it is without doubt an "art" that I can fully appreciate. Seems a lot more worthy and likely to be appreciated than filling Tate Modern with 100 million ceramic sunflower seeds or whatever it was - it looked like the world's most expensive and over-hyped gravel car park.

I wouldn't want it every night, but as a special occasion alternative to normal floodlighting it is very impressive indeed.

The second one down is well worth watching - not just for the AC/DC soundtrack, but also to see Rochester castle being "demolished". Very clever stuff indeed.

Really? They're a long way from the standard flashing lights. I'd say they were performance art really. Very creative and technically impressive.

Mind you, any excuse to open a bottle of wine works for me.

Beats a plastic flashing Father Christmas any day! I see these as pieces of art as worthy as any other. It's not just the techie knowledge and skill, it's the creativity to think up the schemes in the first place prior to programming them. I love the Rochester castle AC/DC - it is a commercial promotion, but a very clever, original and attention-grabbing one.

It is certainly a damn sight more clever than projecting Gail Porter's naked bum onto a building. Even if it was a fine choice of bum.

I don't disagree with anything you say, but I find electric light a bit - well - shouty. Give me an old, old room, bedecked with berried holly, and the flames of a wood fire, and one candle.
