Period Beltane, Calan Haf or May Day

Well, it's some unearthly dark hour and I'm just off to go and dance up the dawn at Talacre Beach.

If the sun doesn't rise today and it carries on raining this fine May Day, then I got the tide and sunrise tables wrong and have been swept out to sea.

Have a belting Beltane everyone, summer starts here. 8)

Well we're supposed to be maypole dancing on the playground this morning - well I say we I mean the school children. It's such a lovely event and won't be the same if we do it in the hall. Fingers crossed they'll be a break in the rain.


What sort of dancing are you doing? - I'm imagining 70's disco :wink:

Talacre Beach! brings back memories from the 40s/50s,my fathers family farmed along that stretch of coast,the light house,the picnics attacked by seagulls,french cricket,knitted swimming trunks,all so long ago! phil.

We are now the proud owners of a new maypole at school, am terrified about teaching the dances to complete novices! My class make the Pat-a-cake Polka look like a martial art.

I feel compelled to add my May morning story - I was awoken this morning by the unexpected and delightful sound of madrigals from the top of Magdalen Tower at 6am. Whilst the madrigals were not unexpected, being able to hear them from our house was - it must have been the perfect wind direction this morning! I even heard the voice of my old tutor reading the prayers ... scary! It really doesn't seem like over a decade since I was up there singing with them. I fear that when we eventually move into our restoration project it will be just a little too far away for the same thing to happen, but perhaps we'll can get out of bed and go to the tower instead!

I was awoken this morning by the unexpected and delightful sound of madrigals from the top of Magdalen Tower at 6am.

In days of yore, I understand it was traditional for young ladies to leap naked off Magdalen Bridge.

Well, one certain young lady, anyway.... :wink:
