We have the river trent at the end of our garden,it is in flood, I dont think our house is in any danger as it has never flooded in living memory but it is moving over our garden,we have lost our kindling pile and I will have to don my chest waders tomorrow and tie the garden furniture to the trees.I placed the garden cane in the pic at the waters edge yesterday and the garden slopes quite steeply so the level had increased about four feet in 24 hours.Whilst doing a "Canute" this morning a large inflatable boat full of youngsters sped downstream over a submerged fence,Im all for adventure but it did seem foolhardy,people have died and the emergency sevices have enough to do.The water is still a long way from the house,the garden is quite long and slopes steeply.Just seen on the local news that the river is expected to rise 1.5m tonight,but still no envoiromental agency flood warnings for our bit of the trent!

They say every cloud has a sliver lining and the high water has created some excellent whitewater conditions in places.

I've been informed that our office by the Thames has flooded to in the past to the point where the power needed to turned off but hampton court will be flooded before us so not to worry

Since it's an old boat house we frequently flood underneath the building depending on what the water management folks feel like this was the view out of the office back in april. Normally the boards at the bottom are completely dry and above the water level.

Phil, so unbelievable! It looks stunning but I'd be frightened. Hope you're OK, and all reading this with the recent extreme weather. How I'd hate to be flooded with all the hours and hours I've put into wallpapers, silk curtains, waxed floors. Fortunately it won't happen on the hill top, though we have had winds in the last week that have made walking outside impossible. And the poor chickens are just in a quagmire.

I see the weather is set to turn at the end of the week with harsh frosts so we could be looking at big sheets of treacherous ice.

The 'y dwr' (by the water) portion of my user name has been troubling us this week! Thankfully our river runs into a reservoir just a couple of hundred meters after if flows past us, and the sluice into the lake seems to be permanently open. So I *hope* that the river won't completely burst its banks - though there's definitely more water in there, it's much faster and fiercer than normal.
The old part of the house has a drain at the front which we assume goes to a soakaway, into which the downpipe gushes (and gushes and gushes and gushes) - well I guess the soakaway was full, on Thursday, as the drain filled up and then backed up until we had 2 inches of water standing against half of the front of the house! It drained away a few hours after the rain let up, but given the forecast for the next week I am quite worried.

Water level still rising! yesterdays carden cane is between the bench and the bush,still a long way from the house,now have flood warnings from the EA,they say that it will peak at 3pm.Listening to the water it seems a lot of energy is going to waste,if only the powers to be could arrange flood defence with power generation it could replace many wind turbines!.chickens doing a "canute" standing on tip toe at the waters edge,crowing and flapping their wings,enticed them back with grapes!.
