Hi
We have a late Georgian town house which is 2 storeys at the front and 4 at the back. Our lower ground floor is underneath the front pavement level - there used to be a metal grid covering a rectangular hole where coal would be poured in. When we moved in there was a small window in the lower ground room (which presumably was opened for the coal to come into the room) and the grid was in place - like many of our neighbours we decided it would be a good idea to have some glass bricks put where the pavement hole was to allow light to come into the downstairs room and provide greater draughtproofing. However.....the person we used (not a registered builder as we couldn't find anyone to do it for us) made a botch job and the downstairs room now smells of damp and water is coming through gaps between the glass bricks (which was slotted into a metal frame). I've already asked my neighbours who they used to fit their much more impressive pavement glass edifices but they had either done it themselves or used someone who has since retired. Does anyone know of any firms in Worcestershire who do this sort of work? We're looking for someone who could replace the glass, building a raised edifice including an air brick, and replaster the inner space ie the space beneath pavement level leading into the downstairs room. Any advice gratefully received as it's driving me potty!
