Pattern Imprinted Concrete

To some of you Period Property puritans the idea of pattern imprinted concrete for a patio or dirveway would be sacreligious but i would welcome any feedback at all. We are thinking of having our patio done in this, however, the house was built in 1847 and we are concerned that it would not be in keeping. I would be interested in any views at all.

Please don't do it, a neighbour of ours did it recently and it really dosen't look good even against a relatively modern house.

it looks really and truly terrible after a couple of years, when the colour fades (coloured concrete fades quite fast, no matter what they claim). also, it looks totally awful almost immediately if done by a less competent contractor. i'd avoid it.

Concrete all over and then once dry, clout diligently with a huge sledge-hammer!

Done at the correct level of frenzy and with the right amount of venom, this method of instant paving can often look quite artistic to the untrained eye.

All the bits of off cuts and stone to small to use in a wall
I tumbled in a mixer for 5 minites,tipped them out, and laid an olde, worlde, wine-de cobble path.
later, nature added some plashes of green colour for contrast

i am a landscape gardener and also do printed concrete.yes there is a danger of not maintaning the houses character if using concrete.although if done correctly can be very affective.however i would suggest that you consider using a natural product such as indian stone wich is a good allternative to york stone at a fraction of the price.in fact it woold work out cheaper than using concrete ,why use something to immatate natural products when the real thing can work out cheaper.

However, there must surely be huge hidden environmental costs in importing stone from India - and its ability to blend in with regional stone, in all its variations, is questionable.

The printed concrete is really not good however!

I was considering a reproduction of the entire Bayeux Tapestry for the drive at Penrose Towers.

Oh we have the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel done in various coloured gravel... but usually I don't boast about it.
