I think you may have misunderstood my original question, current render is silicone based. I would like to paint over it with a more breathable paints, I.e plastic free . From other articles, I have read it states that paint won’t stick to this type of surface.
1. Silicone render is breathable, if you are having issues then look elsewhere, unless it has been applied too thickly.
2. Water proof and breathable are unrelated, GoretexTM anyone?
3. Plastic free does not equate to breathable, plastics can be breathable. Cured linseed oil is plastic.
4. Silicone paint is breathable and designed to be used with silicone renders, so use this.
Silicones are hydrophobic and very hard to overcoat, you should try and find out the name of your render and what paint the manufacturer advises.
5. After establishing that plastics can be breathable, silicone renders and silicone paints are breathable it should however be noted I think what noj was alluding to, that applying a breathable coating over a non breathable substrate won't increase the breathability. Imagine wearing rubber socks, then putting on Goretex boots.
Why do you think a breathable render is non breathing? Either it has been applied incorrectly (too thick) in which case it may require removal, or it may have been done properly and there may be another cause you need to investigate.
