Painted Wooden Beams - How to Restore?

We have numerous wooden beams which have either been painted black or dark stained. We wish to restore these to their natural wood and have been told that although sandblasting is quick it is not recommended. Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can remove the paint and restore the beams?

This gets asked fairly frequently so if you do a search you should get the various debates.


The usual answer seem to be to speak to 'Strippers of Sudbury' who are not anything like as interesting as they sound

They do provide a wide range of paint strippers (and will do your fireplace as well).

Never used them myself but loads of people recommend them.
