outside toilet

we are revamping the (would be) essential outside toilet. made the mistake of asking a bathroom company for advice on choosing a toilet, they have declared their warranty would be invalid if toilet placed outside. Well it won't be outside outside, it will be in a little room on its own . So advice please. There was a little toilet with a high cistern, possibly made of bacolite (sorry about spelling). Toilet is long gone, but all can be made good. Any one offer any advice for a toilet with a waste pipe that goes downwards, not out the back?

Forgive the pun but they are pretty much bog standard. The diameter of the waste exit is, or should be, the same irrespective of maker and the connectors that allow them to be coupled to the sewer are supplied by all the main diy outlets. The connectors are available for a variety of fitment angles and outfits like Travis Perkins, Screwfix and the like supply both the pan and the fittings. You can look up their offerings, and many others, to examine their products to find exactly what you want.

S type pans (that have a downward waste connection) are still purchasable just not as common as they used to be. Generally cheaper to buy one with a horizontal waste and put a 90 on but then that takes up more space, so figure out your priorities and purchase accordingly

We’ve ordered from Drench when we wanted something a bit different from the run of the mill merchants and not been disappointed - other merchants are of course available.

I wouldn’t worry about the warranty / outside stuff

I suspect you may need to give some thought to the type of pan that best suits a high level cistern. High level cisterns deliver a much more vigorous flush than a low-level, and the contours of the bowl are sometimes designed accordingly. Basically they need to accommodate a more turbulent swirl without any tendency to spill out.
I did once have an ancient bowl that was much flatter but had higher sides overhanging more - a bit like shaped sea-walls, designed to thrown the waves back rather than let them spray over. The bowl was useless with a low-level cistern - just not enough force to to clear the contents.

Also don't forget that the outside loo may take cold water at mains pressure rather than a tank in the roof, so you'd need the appropriate valve nozzle.

You are all just amazing, thank you - no mains water here, hence the height needed to get some 'flush'. I see what you say about the sea walls - I will think of that!
