Hello,
I have recently bought a 1902 house with an encaustic tile mosaic floor outside the front door. It's suffered some frost damage over the years. As winter is arriving what should I avoid doing?
For example I have bought some gritting salt to keep the route to the front door clear. Is it OK to use it on the tile floor?
What about shoveling snow? Is there a type of shovel that won't damage the tiles or are the tough enough to handle a regular plastic snow shovel?
It seems to have developed a layer of slime over it when it rains. What treatment is best for these types of tiles to remove that? Perhaps just scrubbing with soap and water only?
I guess over the last 111 years people have been abusing this floor in all kinds of ways but my aim is to eventually restore it so I don't want to add any damage. Thanks.
Andy
