OT/ plant/gas supply pipe

Bother, bother, bother and damnation---- we noticed last evening that our two year old Wisteria plant has decided to push it's way up behind the gas supply pipe against the wall---- it's the leader branch, so I reckon we will have to sever it------- goodbye to blossom----- I was hoping it would flower next year-----.such tricky plants---

Surely severing the leader won't necessarily hold the plant back, will it Joss? It'll just get bushier.

That's what i am hoping--- maybe it will cheeky and flower as well----- we'll now have to work out how to keep it in front of and off the gas supply pipe!!!!

I have a rather huge wisteria and it's always going behind drain/gutter down pipe.
Hell the damn thing grows through open windows, inside gutters, up behind tiles if I don't keep and eye on what its doing once it starts to really grow post flowering
Mostly I've found with a lot of care it is possible to extract the runner from behind the pipe and re-attach it in front.
Bend it gently in a wide curve

however if in your case the gas pipe is up nearly against the wall and the plant has wedged itself solid in the small gap behind as opposed to my drain pipe where there is a fair space behind to manoever it out....then you may have difficulties I'll agree.

Hoorah, Wisteria successfully bent back through, re trained, and very little damage!

Excellent! In view of your success, I recommend training it to obey simple instructions, like "sit", "stay"and "don't grow behind gas pipes".
