OT - Period ovens

We're finally about to embark on the kitchen. Most of the design is sorted and Mrs F is currently looking at a Lacanche oven. Any PPUK'ers have a Lacanche or used one in the past and prepared to offer their thoughts?

They are supposed to be the ultimate---am I right in thinking that it can be customised to your requirements?
I am sure that you will be very pleased with it.

Not sure about 'the ultimate', they are cheaper than the likes of Aga etc when comparing ovens of similar sizes. The main difference is that they go up to some quite enourmous sizes and can have various bits integrated. For us, it was more the desire to have a dual fuel 'range style' oven (LPG and electric), with a decent temperature range.

When browsing ovens, I was surprised (and a little disappointed) to see how many of the different brands are now owned by Aga. :|

Yes, Aga do seem to have a huge monopoly--even their so called re-conditioned cookers maintain an expensive purchase price.Hopefully there will be a Lacanche owner on here before too long. In the meantime it looks as though you will have to continue trawling the website or visiting some outlets to see for yourself. have you looked at Everhot---- lovely big ovens, and each zone fully controllable, not sure whthter they are dual fuel though

We have a Lacanche Macon which has three ovens and two grills and have been delighted with it.Superb cooker, looks the part, built to last and with less of a learning how to use curve than an Aga. However,hellishly expensive to buy now due to the strength of the Euro.

Ooh - what year? I believe 1993 was an excellent vintage.

Thanks for the feedback...how do you find the ovens? We looked at the Macon, but wondered if they were a bit small? Would rather have fewer ovens, but perhaps a larger one? We'd been looking at the Savigny.

PFord Agreed. Not the biggest of ovens, but I like having the flexiblity of being to use all three for a 'big' meal and haven't found anything they can't cope with yet. However, I have to admit Mother still cooks the Christmas turkey so worth considering whether yours will fit before you buy. Also, I frequently use the the fan oven and top grill together. With the Savigny you would have to use the gas oven and grill together since the only grill is in the fan oven versus the Macon which has two.
I guess it really depends for how many and what you tend to cook as to which configuration will suit you best.
I would also suggest you pay for 'commissioning' which will ensure all of your ovens are operating at the expected temperatures. We didn't when we bought ours and cremated a good few meals until we saw the error of our ways.
