OT: lovely gardens

Oops I never seem to post any more - I think I'm in denial about all the jobs that need doing at our house. Anyway, for those of you who live near London and who love gardening and quirky gardens, then Chelsea Fringe starts on Saturday for 3 weeks. It's an 'alternative' garden festival and run entirely by volunteers and has lots of events and pop-up gardens, flower displays etc. For those of you who love and support The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) and you all should of course being period property owners, then you can come and see their little shady courtyard garden in Spitalfields on Saturday 31 May. There's also a little garden at the front behind the railings planted up too which can be seen at any time. I've done all the gardening for the past 18 months as their volunteer gardener I'm doing little talks etc about the garden throughout the day on the 31st and some of the lovely staff will be there too.

Watched a cat being terrorised by a seagull tonight. Cat ran under a bush with seagull pacing up and down stopping it from escaping. Every time the gull flew up on to a nearby roof, the cat would try and make run for it, seagull would swoop and cat would dive back under the bush. Wouldn't catch a dog in that predicament! A small dog might become seagull fodder but it would go down trying!

I'm sorry it's a bit far for me to travel but I hope you gets lots of interest in the garden. As it is a slow news day, here is a picture of my garden, beginning to take shape. Next year will be better as I learn more about plants and planting. Also a picture of my back door, with stripped and restored rim lock and bolts.

It says it was a security camera video and it says the boy needed stitches in his leg - but you could still be right!

Apparently if you call a dog it comes to you but if you call a cat it takes a message and promises to get back to you

Dogs are best. I love the way they want to much to understand us, and often (though not always) want to oblige us if they can. I'll never forget when it got dark while I was out walking my mum's dog in the woods. She knew where she was going, she could smell the path, and it seemed that as soon as she figured out I couldn't see where I was going she stopped running around sniffing and quietly led me out of the trees.

The cat in that video didn't care about the boy, it was just being territorial - "Get off, this boy's mine!"

Lovely garden and back door Plasticpigeon. I've just been admiring my own garden whilst quaffing a glass of pear cider in the sunshine. This year my resolution has been not to neglect my own garden and allotment cos I'm too busy looking after other gardens... I think the mild winter has been very good for Ceanothus - mine is fab this year. Oh and it looks like being a good year for strawberries too.....

Yes, a good year for Ceanothus and a wonderful one for Lilac. And there are literally thousands of buds on our Rambling Rector roses, which form a backdrop to the herbaceous border (see picture from last year below).

Thanks to the fine Spring, the pollenators have been around early, and our fruit trees are laden with promising-looking incipient apples and pears. The "June drop" will thin them out, but it still looks like another good cropping year.

June is about to bust out all over.

Penners, your garden is a delight too--- I am very fond of Rambling Rectors, ( reminds me of my dear late Papa)! That said, our roses, including the rambler are just coming into bud.

Thank you , Joss. This particular Rector has rambled with us from house to house four times now. Mrs P, who has the green fingers in the family, has taken cuttings every time we've moved and these have always struck successfully. In our current garden we have no less than six RRs growing in various areas.

We may never be seen again!

Herewith, our weird and wild garden! The comfrey and forget me nots are now nearly over and will be replaced by 'throw and sow ' seeds which were very successful last year. Providing it does not rain this weekend I hope to get the Box and Taxus Baccata under control--snip snip!!

Tree Peony growing in a pot, safely away from my leaping Labrador--- did not think it would do so well in a pot!
