OT, Childrens cloths , what to do with them?

My wee girl has grown out of her clothes and we now have three big black bags full of clothes, mainly from next and other similar brands.
Now I have thought about charity shops but to be fair I would rather not contribute to some charity workers huge yearly bonus (thats another story) so I need options, I've thought about approaching orphanages etc, any ideas guys?

I really don't know what you're referring to as regards charity workers' huge bonuses, but since you want alternative suggestions to charity shops, how about:

We our the clothes on Freecycle.

Set yourself up an email address and join the one local to your area. The reason to set one up is that you can receive 100s of emails a day.

Anyway, we did this with our wee bearn's clothes and they all went to a very welcome home.

We used to give them to friends with smaller children. We also used to inherit items from friends with older children.

I still remember the occasional sense of satisfaction when FF junior actually wore out an item of clothing instead of just out-growing it, but it was fairly rare so it was good to pass them on to to a good home for further use.

Or maybe the answer is simply to have another baby. Then you'll have someone pass them directly down to. :wink:

Find the nearest Children's home, they maybe glad of them, plus toys.

In our area there are baby sales. They don't sell babies (well, not that I've seen anyway), but parents can set up a stall and sell their old baby/kids clothing and toys etc.

You won't get much for baby clothes on Fleabay or similar, there are always so many for sale.

The National Childbirth Trust run "Nearly New Sales" in most areas - Mrs F organises the one round here - £10 for a table usually, and you keep whatever you take. Check on your local group, they are very popular and tables can be sold out well in advance, our one always has a waiting list.

Alternatively the clothes will get snapped up instantly on Freegle / Freecycle if that's your thing.

Our favoured way has always been to pass onto anyone we know with younger kids than us, as we've had so much passed onto us. Of course this technique doesn't work quite so well when you change your mind and decide to have another child and you've given away all your baby stuff already

Thanks guys , all food for thought. We have just accumulated another bag of old clothing, how can a new born have so many clothes. Grannys and Grandads I suppose.

We were lucky enough, when our first child was born, to have a shop (called "Outgrown") on the outskirts of St Albans that bought and sold 'used' childrens' clothes, equipment and toys.
We bought absolutely everything from there, including terry nappies. When things had been outgrown we sold them back.

I hate to break it to you Rob, but it keeps on being a problem. Even internal recycling from number 1 to number 2 leaves us with a pile of number 2's cast-offs. Maybe we should shred them and make insulation out of them?*

*shred the clothes I mean, not the children.

Freegle/Freecycle or if you want to try and get a few quid for a each bag then Cheapcycle.
I was always happy to pass them to the charity shop - Oxfam wouldn't take kids clothes - but the Salvation Army were very happy to and I believe they sort and pass them directly on to people with kids and no money.

A friend of ours used to hand clothes forward as she had a daughter younger than ours but a local nearly new kids clothes shop. She'd turn up with things that he kid didn't fit into yet (which were always great), mine would wear them for a bit then we'd pass them back along with more out grown stuff
