OT - Any ornithologists amongst us?

You're a clever bunch, I'm sure someone will know more about birds than I do (not hard!)

The hedge in my front garden that seperates me from the neighbours desperately needs a prune, but I've been avoiding doing so as a blackbird has been nesting in there and I didn't want to disturb them.

Young Master - or Miss - Blackbird has now left the nest, I keep seeing him around the garden & driveway. Am I now safe to give the hedge a trim or should I wait a bit longer?

Same applies for my hedge in the back garden - except this time it's house sparrows, loads of them!

Are you able to take a peek into the nest? If so, you could just reassure yourself that any young have fledged and departed. Once this has happened, you can trim the hedge quite happily.

In fact, if you want a hedge to practice on, I just happen to have one that needs cutting.

Thank you - I wasn't sure if they came to back to roost there for a while or any other reason why disturbing the area around the nest just after the young had flown was a bad idea (and frankly I was too lazy to trawl through t'interweb for an answer! :wink: )

There's no danger of me disturbing them Middi, not intentionally at least. Not sure my very houseproud neighbour is so pleased at the hedge being left to grow, but that's his problem - at least he has taken the hint and not trimmed his side, yet.
