I’ve recently installed some pine, fully glazed concertina secondary doors on my beach hut to allow us to use the beach hut during the winter. These inner secondary doors will only be exposed to the elements when the heavy ‘windowless’ double skinned outer doors are open. Obviously these new doors need treating/protecting from the elements but I’m not sure what to use. I’ve been looking at the following Osmo products :-

Osmo One-Coat Only HS Plus – A semi-transparent, satin-matt exterior and interior wood finish - Water-repellent and resistant to weathering.

Osmo Wood Protector

Osmo Wood Stain & Protector (clear)

Osmo WR Base Coat

Osmo Clear oil wood finish (used on ‘out of water’ parts of boats apparently)

My problem is most of these products appear to give an opaque or satin finish or even raise the grain and I’m really looking for a near matt natural wood finish. The currently untreated new doors look quite fresh and beautiful and it’s a look I wood like to maintain.

The hut is currently being fitted out and I had originally planned to use Osmo Polyx on the timber floor but this interior use product would obviously not be suitable for the doors. All of these products are quite expensive so it would be really cost effective if I could find one product that dose all

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Treatex hardwax oil is what I have used on floors, doors, frames, window cills and furniture.

Available in matt, drys quicker than osmo, its greener than osmo.

Maybe better for your floor, possibly durable enough for the doors too, we have had spillages on our floors which have not touched the wood at all.

Thanks for the Treatex link. Looking at the products on their site they appear to recommend the traditional hard wax oil for interior surfaces only; floors, furniture and kitchen worktops etc. For exterior surfaces prone to weathering they appear to recommend another product; UV resistant exterior oil. Both it would seem have different properties, one able to withstand traffic the other able to withstand weather and mildew etc, but I think you’re saying that you have used one product ( the traditional hardwax) on both interior and exterior surfaces with some success. Not sure if it would stand up to the weather and sea spray on my beach hut though. As with the exterior Osmo products the Treatex exterior oil appears to have a satin finish which I would like to avoid if possible. I’m still a bit confused by the variety of products Ozmo have to offer.

I have only used it internally, but in some places where it takes a hammering, bathroom floors getting wet, etc.it is hardwearing.

How far back are the doors set from the solid doors, i.e. is there a degree of protection?

It would certainly be worth talking to Treatex about their other products if the hardwax is unsuitable maybe one of there other products will be more suitable.

Just a brief comment and probably no help at all but I wouldn't consider the floor of a beach hut "internal" or "inside".
Sea air being what it is together with tread, salt, spray and high tides, weathering is accelerated by a degree of magnitude IME.
I'd use external decorative finishes thoughout.
