Osma soil pipe, upvc?

I have an Osma type soil pipe in grey which I'd like to paint. Can anyone recommend a suitable paint or primer for whatever plastic it's made of, maybe uPVC or polythene?

I believe underground plastic pipes are high density polyethylene (HDPE), but I'm not absolutely sure. Some plastic piping is uPVC.

I've seen a special paint in B*Q for uPVC. Or it might be worth buying a small can of Plasticote to test - also sold in the above emporium.

Make sure the pvc is thoroughly degreased and rough up the surface with a light sandpaper to create a key. The main concern is creating a good surface for the paint to bond to.

I used pvc pipe when I taught my sculpture classes and used simple enamel spray paint; no primer. It'll take the weather reasonably well, if you prepare the surface, but you'll have to repaint every couple of years (like any other exposed surface, really). If you primed I'm sure the paint would last even longer, but if you don't prepare the surface I wonder if the primer would do any good. I've never used any special PVC paints, being too cheap.

I'm cheap as well. bog standard masonary paint has been used on some of our plastic pipes. Its fine except where something has rubbed against the pipe. But its only been on 5 years.
