Mmmm How high is it? A garden seat? A very retro telephone table, you could put phone on his head? A step up to somewhere? Chopping block? Somewhere to hide your keys when you go out with the dog? storage for free newspapers in the the mouth hole? bird table? drinks table?
Well i dunno, it's 6:30am and that's the best i can come up with. It is fab though and i would certainly buy it.

It's a shame that it was taken from wherever it was originally, but nothing can be done about that now. Would be nice for it to go to someone that loves it. Sometimes takes a while for a thing to settle into your imagination and get put to use, but that wouldn't stop me from buying what I really liked.

Hmm, I made something similar once although was it a lions head? Off to the photos to see if I can find a picture...

I'm guessing there is a hole behind the head.
If so you could stick a loo seat on the flat bit put the old boy on the hole and away you go.

Lovely thing. I guess if you can't build it in to the wall of the house - would need to be a thick wall or a buttress - it would work at the end of a water cascade in the garden.
I used to buy things I liked in the vague hope that I would find a use for them. Hmmm..

Thanks for the compliment Ivor. I've dozens more photos of stuff I've done over the years but I don't want everyone to get fed up with me putting them on here... 
I can't be sure if I did put my name on those lions although there were 6 of them if I remember correctly so I might have. They were about 2ft 6" high and I took clay impressions of the faces and used 9lb, or Code 9 lead for the sides as I was a bit tight on the price to use expensive rubber moulds. That taught me not to price an object on a faxed sketch without any dimensions on it. The customer wanted the costing there and then and... oh well, you live and learn!
It looks to me as if jackpoint's feature is just a grotesque and not a gargoyle as I can't see a hole in the back for water to pass through. Handsome feller though isn't he?

What kind of building would that have come from originally? It is quite big. Isn't your house a brick-built cottage 200 years old or so? And wouldn't that have come from a much larger, grander building? I'm afraid I can't help but think that in the garden it would be OK, but not in the house. I find it striking but really quite overpowering and I think would draw attention to itself, away from your lovely house.jackpoint said:

A choice of buildings I reckon Zebra, most probably either a church, (or place of worship) or a Gothic building of some sort. The eyes are looking to dexter (right) and most probably there's one somewhere looking to sinister (left) so that they could have been be a pair mounted at he springing point of an arch or doorway looking inwards. In a church setting it could possibly have been placed as a corbel stone where a timber bracket holds up a truss. It could also have been used in a church where aisles have been added to the nave with columns and arches, who knows?
The Victorians were great believers in building aisles at the sides of medieval churches resulting in mass destruction of hundreds of churches that had lived quite happily for centuries without Gothic accretions tacked on to them...that's that rant over with then!! :twisted:

My suggestion would be to fit an extractor fan inside its mouth, then mount it on the wall over the cooker.
