Open day Saturday 25th October

On Saturday 25th October the Somerset Conservation Officers group have organised a traditional Building Craft fair in Shepton Mallet with around 30 stalls and demonstrations.

In conjunction with the organisers we have decided to open 8 Market Place, The Merchants House for charity on that day for guided tours at £5 a head for charity. My father in law has just passed away after receiving some outstanding care from a hospice in Spoleto, Umbria. With this in mind we have chosen to raise money for St Margarets Hospice in Somerset who only receive 20% of their funding from the NHS.

I have arranged for Kevin McCloud to open both the fair and also our property shortly afterwards.

Anyone wishing to come should contact me to book early as we have limited spaces.

It has all been about personal pleasure of achievement, certainly not the money! so yes but I think it will help my wife with her grieving process knowing that something positive has been triggered which will help others so am very happy with that, I just hope we are run ragged that day.

We are planning to visit the Fair and would love to look at the Merchants House. Brilliant idea to do it for St Margaret's, they do so much good locally and are planning a Yeovil hospice soon, so the money will be well spent.

Thankyou all, Have had to dash to Cardiff today with my stepson to add stabilisers to the wobbly step daughter over losing her grandad, she is better for seeing some friendly faces now.

Well I guess the best thing for all of you who wish to send a donation is to make a cheque out to St Margarets Hospice and send it to my address so we can give them it on Saturday.

Timeslots are as follows we will be doing staggered tours 10.20, 10.25, 11.15, 11.20, 12.10, 12.15, 1.20, 1.25, 2.15, 2.20, 3.10, 3.15, 4.05 and 4.10.

If anyone wishes to prebook please let me know the timeslot required and we will collect the money when you arrive or you can send a cheque if you do that in the earlier part of the week.

I find your website really interesting, and am itching to see more photos of progress inside. I expect you're very busy at the moment, but sure I won;t be the only one rushing to take a look when you get some pictures up.

Yes pictures are planned shortly, however I am not the techie when it comes to websites so firstly will have to take pictures before we move in and then organise pictures for the website gallery, hopefully in a few weeks they will be there.

Wow, thats just fabulous! You shouldn't tease us like this though, we need more! Whats the floor in there? Wide boards?

There are a few narrow boards, i.e. 8" and 9" the majority are 11",12",13" and 14". We saved enough boards from the building to relay one room at 25m2 with old again similar widths.

Looks great, and so good you were able to save so much. 25m2? thats a huge space - is that the great hall?

No the south wing master bed chamber, sadly the great hall required 50m2, in all we have 200m2 of oak floors on the first and second floors and around another 50m2 in the attic/mezzanine areas.
