Can't say as I know Preston bus station too well, and I'm not sufficiently tempted to head up the M6 for a peek.

Birmingham Central Library I do know well though, well at least I did as a student about 20 years ago - whilst I don't hate it, it's hardly a thing of beauty. The "floozy in the jacuzzi" outside is quite entertaining though, the name showing typical Brummie humour. I don't know anyone who refers to it by it's real name.

Whilst I don't find the Preston bus station easy on the eye, brutalism is definitely amusing, as other fans of Evelyn Waugh will testify. It's evocative of a particular age, and there isn't all that much of it in this country.

If I had my way everything would be frilly Gothick - honeycomb panes and pointy spires and lovely ogees, or perhaps just graceful Neo-Classicism. People would wear long frocks and frock-coats and ringlets, and retire in secrecy to suck oranges for fear of shocking their friends.

Alas, the world I'm drawn to is long gone, and perhaps we do have to make the best of the " interesting" buildings we have in our national heritage in recompense.
