I'm hoping Schoolmarm will contribute to this and just repeat some comments she made to me privately about how limewash sets. ( I'm not sure if "sets" is the right word, but I'm using it for want of a better)
The sample cards of limewash, in the Historic Colours of Buxton, made by Aglaia and stocked by Womersleys, are a really glorious range of colours, but, on the cards at least, seem a particularly fragile finish. Rub hard with your finger and all the paint crumbles off the card.
But I've been told that isn't representative of how it really behaves, so would be grateful to hear from anyone who's used it how likely it is to rub off as you lean against it, for example.
