Old coin or lead scrap?

Hi All,

I found this under a a bit of missing floorboard. (Don't ask )

There are no markings, or traces of markings, on either side
Its only about 2mm thick and there are no signs of holes if it was seal.

Is it a “coin” of some form or just a scrap of lead?

Doesn't look like a coin if there's nothing by way of design on it, even when they get really old and worn there's often a trace. Not sure what it might be though, a hole punched out of something?

Lead was sometimes used to make tokens that were used as 'local' currency in some parts of the world and here in the UK. Some of the earliest date from Roman times. May be worth taking it to a coin dealer or museum for valuation but dont count on a windfall.

On the other hand it could, as Lady A suggests, be a blank punched out by a roofer.

Sometimes used in period vending machines. Usually had to dri!l out some of the centre to get the correct weight.

snap, found 2 days ago, seems to have a feint heart emboss but cant see any attachment to use as a seal, in a 1450 house. Is def lead.

I think it's a lead weight sewn into the corner of a curtain to help it to hang straight. It looks the same size as those I've found in curtains, and indeed used when making new ones. You can buy new ones with two holes to stitch them in, like buttons, but all the old ones I've found have just been stitched into a pocket in the structure of the curtain fabric.

I think you may be right on the curtain weight. Where I found it may have had a door curtain hanging.
