The two rooms at the front of our house have suspended wooden floors with vents to the front of the property that I have recently cleared out thereby restoring airflow However the 'office' which is to the rear of the property has a solid floor at a slightly higher level than the front rooms. My long term aim is to remove the floor to see what it reveals as I think it is a more recent addition. However, prior to doing that I removed the skirting board to see whether I could see where the vents to the rear of the property went. There are 3 vents on the outside and having removed the skirting it is possible to feel that the go under the concrete floor and through pipes about 3 inches in diameter. These are all fully blocked.
First question - clearly unblocking these pipes would be a good thing to do. How do I go about doing this? I can only wriggle my hand through the small space created by removing the skirting board. I think I need to pull the junk out rather than push it through as I don't know where the pipes go (see Q2).
The pipes head towards the livingroom at the front of the property. However there are big wooden timbers that run under the wall that divides the living room from the office. So where do these pipes go (or do they just run up to the timber and then stop)? What really is the point of the pipes if they only go through the conrete and then stop.
One final thing - there is damp in the office (I think I posted about this before) that is related to the outside ground being higher than the floor in the office.
Any top tips would be very much appreciated.
Cheers
