Number of Forum Users

I've been on this forum for over eight years and there have never been many users on at the same time - it's been a few, rarely into double figures. Nothing wrong with that although I did wonder about the 80-something users which was the greatest number from some years previously.

However, I have just noticed that the greatest number has now shot up to 321 on 25 October 2018! Who are all these people and where are they from? And WHY?

I have been told that some countries use UK websites (like this one) for teaching English, so perhaps that would explain it? Or some other reason?

Coo, that's dangerous - we have some members who are more articulate in Anglo Saxon than they are in English, but I'm not pointing any fingers; I still need em.

I think the thingamys they call 'bots' may have some bearing on the user numbers. Not too sure what they are but the First Lady tells me they roam the internet gathering intel on what we are looking at or talking about and feeding the data back to Cambridge Analytics. :shock:

Some of us use it to gather very useful information whilst planning our own little renovation projects...

Internet bots tend to be the most frequent visitors to any website. Yahoo used to get carried away in it's day and would visit hundreds of times a minute. With the spread of technology anyone can make bots behave just as badly these days.

Doubt they are human. The set up of the forum doesn't encourage humans to find it and join. Disallow: /forum/ in robots,txt doesn't help spread the word and clearly doesn't repel bots.

That's a polite way of putting it. It seems to actively discourage people from joining and staying.
