Normal exterior filler

Needed to remove an old non working wall lamp from an outbuilding. It was fastened in using three 6inch nails! As you can see from the photo it has caused some damage to the fabric.
What I would like to know, with it being quite a small area, is can I just use a normal exterior filler after sealing the area with pva?

Wet it somewhat, then a weak mixture of NHL2 & sharp.
Normal filler is rigid, best avoided.

Alternatively, clay & chopped hay/straw & fresh cow dung in equal parts. Best not mixed indoors.
