NHL Gun Mortar - limepoint product experience?

Hi all,

Got a lot of pointing to do this summer, has anyone had any experience of this product?

Would make my life a lot easier if it does actually do what it says on the tin, but I've not had great experiences with NHL based mortars and guns in the past so a bit leery! So, anyone used it? Or can recommend an equivalent?

Personally, I wouldnt use one as I think the mix would have to be a bit wet to get through the gun properly and would prefer to use a mix that would be a bit too stiff to get through the gun.

I dont think it saves a great deal of time either. Pointing brick is easy and quick, pointing stone often is too and pointing uncoursed rubble will always be a pain in the arse regardless of what tools you are using.

I'd say it isn't a good idea. The results on the page are not very good, and I Crazycacti has said, the mix would have to be too wet. With practice it is possible to point quite fast using a pointing or finger trowel.

If it works like the write up suggests it's probably OK. You might have to use their mortar mix too. I did try and do it with a mortar pointing gun once but found that all it did was squeeze the water from the mix. I tried a few mixes but came to the conclusion that it wasn't going to work. I think it was due to using sharp sand in which the grains grip together instead of sliding over each other. Let us know how you get on if you do go down that route as I could do with a quicker way.

Okidoki, if no-one has actually tried that specific product then I will buy a bag and then report back!

Try their mortar somewhere out of sight, or you'll be stuck with it.
Mortar colours differ - start with theirs somewhere visible, you gotta continue.

My slight experience of mortar guns is that the mix has to be too wet and therefore weak.
Especially considering that with lime, one has to wet the background as well.
