Hi all
We are intending to put a new (engineered) wood floor over our existing wooden floor in kitchen, dining room, living room and hall, and have a couple of options. Grateful for thoughts on the best way.
Main aims are to remove various cracks and holes to stop any little fingers getting in cracks - our first baby is due to arrive mid September (pressure's on!), and add to warmth. Floor is very drafty, and I've noted the threads elsewhere suggesting filling in gaps is a cost-effective way of achieving this.
Option 1) 6mm ply wood, glued / screwed to existing floor. Install 20x200mm thick engineered oak flooring plank; rustic AB grade on top.
Option 2) Jackoboard plano 12mm thick, reinforced cement on both sides. Fulham R78 engineered click wood flooring on top.
Option 2 is cheaper but has anyone had any experience of using Jackoboard plano? The spec seems very good https://www.jackon.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/JACKOBOARD-Plano-Construction-Boards.pdf but wood is good insulator either way(?) I'm wondering about the fire proof properties but I suppose wood is a combustible at any rate.
Option 1, a larger company, has 6-8 weeks lead in time whereas Option 2 said he could start in 3 weeks. Should it be a worry if one is less busy than the other?
Neither are on checkatrade but google reviews are generally good.
Cheers.
