Hello everyone. We're in the process of buying a grade II cob and stone property. The main issues in the surveyor's report seem to be damp in the stone extension (built 1775) and movement in one of the cob walls (built 1600s).
We've never owned period property before and realise there is a lot to learn. From my research (here and on other internet sites), it seems that the existence of damp is not in itself a problem. But can anyone give me some idea of what we should be considering about the cob wall? Apparently there's been no movement in the last 8 yrs, but the surveyor recommends a lateral restraint as a precautionary measure. We're getting a structural engineer to look at it next week, but I was wondering if anyone here had any advice to give me on what to look out for in his report.
