The new planning rules are announced today.

The BBC certainly seem to be predicting that it will be news that will please the house builders a great deal and will disappoint those who objected to the draft plan. We shall see, but I will be very surprised if they are wrong.

Almost 90% of all donations to Labour come from a small number of Trades Unions - I wonder how much that influences their policy and Ed's lukewarm condemnation to the variety of politically motivated strikes in the past year or two?

The whole thing stinks - for both parties.

Simple answer - ban individual or organisational donations of more than £50k.

I used to know Joe Bamford, founder of JCB (Joseph Cyril Bamford). In those days he was a very ordinary bloke, who wanted his manufacturing plant to be the best place in Britain to work.

Well, Joe may have been down to earth, but his offspring must have more money than sense if they gave away £2m to a political party. Any political party. OK, especially the Tories, I had to say it!

I can think of an awful lot of much more deserving causes of £2m worth of charity than a mainstream political party.

But would these deserving causes have resulted in a change in the planning guidance that suited the big yellow diggers?

Yup - I knew him the early '70s. He was still very "hands on" in the company then.

At least JCB's £2m might get some new houses built for people to live in. As I recall, Bernie Ecclestone's £1m only got a short-term tobacco advertising exemption for F1 out of Tony Bliar. As for JCBs being widely seen on building sites these days, it seems more likely to be something like Komatsu in my experience - which tells it's own sad story.

I'm with Feltwell about donating such ridiculous amounts to political companies - such a thing would be way, way down my own list of priorities. Probably just below having my eyebrows pierced. Still, each to their own.

I really don't think that's a good idea, if you add the word "piercing" to the term "Prince Albert" google is not going to give you some nice photoshopped pictures of Victoria's husband........ :shock:

The Rocester company has pledged £3.5 million and a recruitment drive that will see over 100 new employees join its ranks. These new starters will be young talent beginning in September and taking on roles including in a new Higher Apprentice Scheme.

The other good news is JCB has retained 100% of its graduates over the past 5 years.

Plus over the next few years they are taking on a further 350 people for engine development.

JCB sponsor the Young Enterprise programme in the West Midlands, the area finals are held every year in their auditorium.

So it's not all bad news
