I have had a new oak door made, I’m waxing it, does it need anything else, Carpenter is recommending osmo poly oil/ wax stuff. Will that even go on top of wax? Is there any need? Ta in advance.
No, I certainly wouldn't recommend Osmo on top of wax. I've never tried it in that order but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work.
Osmo first and then wax on top, or just Osmo, or just wax would all be fine though.
I assume this is an internal door?
Same here - I can’t imagine using it on top of wax. Indeed, I can’t think of anything that would work on top of wax other than more wax.
I’ve used Osmo Polyx on internal and external oak doors. I wanted to leave the external one bare so it would gradually go silver/grey but was advised it would likely move too much. So I used the ‘internal’ Osmo on the external face and am allowing it to gradually wear off in the hope that any movement will be more gradual. Six years on it seems to be working, though it looks a little ‘shabby’ at present and has moved a little in the frame and could do with a bit of fettling, but not much.
