New Floorboards, wood dye and Osmo

I've just completed the rather daunting task of finishing the floorboards in one of the rooms, due to cost we have used redwood in this room and have saved oak for the master bedroom. I just thought i'd share the photos of the work in progress and the finished result. I used Colron Georgian Medium Oak Wood Dye, followed by OSMO Polyox - Oil. Previously this first floor room was a bathroom that had a concrete floor laid on laths!

I did have to cage Mrs MdB in so as to get the sanding finished though...

A sound plan, MdB, but poorly executed, I'm afraid. After the hard work of all that sanding, I strongly suspect that she'll be able to squeeze between those bars.

Yes I was admiring that on the other thread. Its interesting that you also used 3 coats as it says 2 on the tin. By the small reduction in volume in the tin I thought I had spread it too thinly, hence the 3rd coat. I used a 4" synthetic brush to apply it as I thought I would make a better job of applying it rather than using the recommended floor brush. This floor was a bit of a practice before I attempt the oak. Nice to see what the end result should look like after seeing your photos. How was your Osmo applied?

Three thin coats is better than two and we found it quite hard to see where the second coat was going. The third made sure that everywhere had at least two coats. The 2.5L can covered 40m^2 with three coats with a little bit left over. This is considerably more than the 30m^2 with two coats that it states on the can so I guess our layers were thin. To be honest though, I think a thicker coating per coat would not have been a good idea.

The brush used was a nominally a good 75mm brush but turned out to shed hairs all over the place. A floor brush could be considered if you have a really large area but our little brush really didn't take too long.

(I say we in the above but actually it was Mrs MdB who did all the osmoing.)
