New 50 house Development planned next to our listed house

We have a grade II listed house in Kent, it sits in an acre plot and has a 7 acre field that wraps around it. The people that owned it until 2000 owned both the field and the house, but retained ownership of the field. They now want to put in planning permission for 50 houses. This would severely impact our house, the views, privacy etc. The land slopes up and the proposed houses would look down on our property. Do we have any argument against the proposals from a listing point of view?

You will of course have same right as anyone else to register an objection to the development. I imagine you know that such objections need to be based on some quasi-legal point - you won't get anywhere with "because I don't like it", I'm afraid. If you do plan to object, make sure you do so within the requisite timescale.

As to the possibility of a valid objection based on the listed status of your property, I'm afraid I have no idea whether this is a realistic possibility. We have one or two Conservation Officers who are contributors to this forum - perhaps one of them might comment.

Might it be worth having a word with your own Conservation Officer, to see what his/her views are?
