It's interesting though, to see the efforts being made to train people in skills which are in short supply for repairing period buildings, the various means of doing so and accrediting the people concerned.

There are also bursary schemes, and it's just possible that someone reading this will be inspired enough to apply.

A worthwhile range of skills taught to NVQ level? Wouldn't it be better to learn them properly?

If you read the rest I think you will find that's only one thing on offer.

Anyhow - the old seven year apprentice scheme is long gone, and this is a start to try to rectify the skills shortage.

presumably a qualification in English will not be required

"be careful about thoroughly prepare the background surface before starting your work otherwise you will not achieve that essential quality finish. Measuring volumes and surfaces is an part of a plasterer ’s day so if it helps if you are comfortably with maths and also climbing ladders!"

Working on buildings is creative and there is a lot of satisfaction
with this since you can see the results of your efforts.
What qualifications do you have (construction or
nonconstruction related; GCSEs, Standards, AS Levels,

9 GCSEs, 3 A levels, BA (Hons), Postgraduate Diploma in
Architectural Stonework Conservation.
