I am looking into solutions to insulate my rubble walls. I wish to use homatherm and put it into timber studs. I reaise that I will nead an air/vapour barrier between the timber studs and the plasterboard. Do I need anything between the insulation and the cavity before the external wall (which will be rendered? Also what is the best way to attach the timber stud to the existing wall?

Right - second attempt at a post - first one hasn't appeared!

We've had many posts about lining so it may be worth a site search. However, I urge caution before burying all walls behind false ones - you could lose a great deal of character in the process. I've just been looking at a quality barn conversion in a mag which leaves some parts of walls bare and uses wood cladding on others - looks effective and sympathetic.

Why are you wishing to render - and with what?
