Had the Gemans not flattened so much, I wonder if we'd be as keen as we are on conservation?

Those pictures are fascinating, Gareth. Having lived in the area for only a short time I haven't yet got to know Norwich well, but I certainly recognise a lot of those areas. The Roman Catholic Cathedral obviously escaped by a hair's breadth, whereas several other churches weren't so lucky.

Probably not (the 1940s were a wake-up call for conservation), but it's instructive that quite a lot of the early replacement building of the 1950s is in a bland and inoffensive (and historically quite interesting but architecturally null) neo-Georgian style of the sort espoused by some heirs to the throne...

It would be fascinating to combine lots of images all taken from the same spot and then be able to 'morph' through time and see how things have changed. Having said that, it's probably already been done somewhere!
