More Nasty houses!

A bit out of our price range, but even more of a 'wow' property than the one we were looking at:

Guess the Nasty residents really don't like the idea of a solar farm on their doorstep, that's about 40% of the hamlet up for sale at once! They're all spectacular houses and deserve to sell, but surely everyone upping sticks and moving at once is bound to do more damage to local property prices than the solar farm could ever do?

Yes, but if you can put up with the farm or screen it out with trees, you may be able to pick up a bargain.

I wouldn't mind living next to a solar farm. I think they're quite cool, and a better way to generate energy, in terms of economies of scale, than individual panels on people's roofs.

Given the choice of a solar farm or houses, I think it is the lesser of 2 evils.

I totally agree, if they're screened with suitable hedges, once it's been built the worst you'll get is the the noise of occasional maintenance, grazing sheep, and the quiet buzz of their cooling fans on really hot summer days. Also they did a study on how solar farms affect house prices in the USA and they reckon it's only a 4% drop.

And there are definitely worse fates which have befallen many villages on the Herts / Essex border e.g. landfills, new housing estates or landfills followed by new housing estates.

I can understand the locals being upset in lots of ways - the hamlet probably hasn't changed much in the last 400 years, and suddenly getting a a field full of futuristic technology dumped next to you when you can't even get a mobile signal must be galling. And there's always the worry it'll become the thin end of the wedge now planning permission's been given, and be followed up with windfarms, industrial estates, etc. But everyone putting their houses up for sale at once and then scaring off potential buyers with a huge banner slung across the road saying 'No Nasty Solar Farm!' definitely isn't the right way to deal with it.

That's what I was thinking. Now all I've got to do is work out how to stall our house's buyer (and my other half) for a couple of months whilst they scupper their own resale values, and there could be some real bargains to be had
