Modern lighting and ceiling hook

Hi all

We would like to intall new lighting in our hallway. Right now we have an old chandelier from the 80's or 90's and want to replace it with something modern. However, pretty much all modern lighting comes with a "ceiling rose" (not sure if this is the correct word in English), our ceiling is still lath and plaster and uses a ceiling hook. I do not want to attach anything to the lath, I prefer to use use the hook out of precaution.

Does anyone know if there is a solution to attach new lighting to a hook?

Some of the Ikea light fittings use hooks. Dear niece asked me to fit one in her little pad earlier in the year. Can't tell you which of the fittings use hook though...
In the meantime, the more traditional light fittings here use conventional roses - Aim to get at least one screw in to a joist, and it should be fine.

Either buy a pendant light with a long enough flex to wrap around the hook a couple of times or there are many fixtures which you can purchase which utilise a chain.
Or you can just buy pendant light chain on its own and then ensure that the fixture you buy has a loop you can mount the chain to.

I think you need to distinguish between supporting the electrical wiring and supporting the weight of the light fitting.
An old nineteenth century chandelier would probably have had a considerable weight and therefore have needed a substantial hook, or similar, to carry it. The wiring would have been discreetly hidden somehow.
The two functions are usually now combined in one, as most fittings are quite light and can hang on their wires, which are simply wrapped around plastic lugs inside the ceiling rose, which is otherwise just an electrical junction box. I can see that you wouldn't want both a hook and a rose visible, so I suppose you just poke the wires through a hole and access the junction from above?
