Mini digger width

Hello,
I know it's a strange question but is there a standard width for a mini digger? We're fencing off part of our garden and letting it revert back to moorland but we need to have a gate into it and we might need to bring a mini digger through at some point. I don't want a gate as wide as a standard farm gate so I was thinking of about 4' - will a mini digger go through that? Thanks, Vicky

A digger will go through any size gate, with sufficient 'run-up'... :lol:

Wooden fence or wire fence?

If the latter, I would put in a 6 or 8 foot wire gate, with a tensioner on the field side. Then it would simply appear as part of the fence, except when you need to get something through it. Gates are never wide enough, so I would make provision to get a full size tractor through. I can't find an image of a wire gate at the moment, but very easy to make, while installing the fence.

You'll certainly find a mini digger to fit through a 4ft gate. I suggest you talk to a few local hire centres.

Some diggers have variable width tracks, like this one:



The maximum width when the tracks are closest together is 956mm (38 inches), for manoeuvring in tight spaces, but can be extended to a width of 1306mm (51 inches) for improved stability when space is not restricted.

We're chosen the field gates and are going for 4' ones. Next we commission the gorgeous Dan to come and install the fence and the gates. Then we breathe a sigh of relief at the reduction in the mowing and the turning over of garden to sheep.Thank you for your help.

Our gate post got smashed up by the mini digger this year- just had to replace the whole lot, post, new wider gate put in. 4 ft sounds good. Exciting changes, Vicky!
