Merry Christmas to all - it's 1am and we've just about finished getting ready! We're even more disorganised than usual this year, though we have got an excuse, needing to care for the last week for my mother-in-law who very abruptly took a turn for the worse.

She however is now much improved and is at my brother-in-law's house, giving us today to try and do a week's worth of preparation in, complete with 3 very excited kids to try and keep calm........

I'm just off to my parents for the day. Not the most relaxing of venues. I wonder what the traditional Christmas argument will be about this year? Any bets?

We survived - 3 happy kids & 2 shattered (but also happy) adults! I got the decent set of clamps I wanted to help with all the sash repairs I need to do next year, exciting eh? :lol: It's what I wanted!

Bit of a shadow cast over events this year with the mother-in-law, dementia is starting to bite properly for the first time just within the last 2 weeks, beyond the previous status of being a bit "old & forgetful" - apparently she was up at 5am in my brother-in-law's house this morning demanding to know why the bus wasn't there and why had they invited so many old ladies round? (She was the only one). She also thought all the cards on display meant it was her birthday.

I think I'll stay permanently middle-aged (bit late for staying young) - old age is looking less attractive! What is it they say, growing old is compulsory, growing up is optional? :wink:

I got two books about local history of Hull. The first is about the air raids during WWII, which of course was one of the worst affected cities in the UK. So many period building destroyed.

The second book was rather more modern as it's about local nightclub that's been going since th early 80s (Spiders). As a regular for many years from '86 to some time in the late '90s I have mixed feelings of not being in any of the photos (partly relieved). Its a special place, where those of a different outlook on life frequent. If you know the place, you'll know what I mean.

No sash cramps for me.

Kids have caused the house to be full of plastic.

Hello Everyone-- A Very Happy New Year to you all and your Period Properties! It seems that I seldom pop in here now, partly because FB has several of my original PPUK friends lurking around and partly because our teeny tiny modern cottage is a rather boring affair --no Witches' marks, no hidden fireplaces , no lime and mortar, no special paint finish requirements--try mentioning ROse of Jericho round here and the Painters look at you very blankly and say 'but we always use Farrow and Ball'--

A Happy New Year to everybody and thanks for providing both excellent information and entertaining posts over the last year.
A bout of facial shingles rather put a downer on Christmas ( I'd post a photo but I don't want to frighten the horses! 8) ) but I'm on the road to recovery in time to have a new heart valve early in January... Apparently I'll be out of action for about three months which is a nuisance as I have a batch of rainwater heads and pipes to make. Oh well, I suppose they might wait for them!

DWB? I'm stumped with that one...
